New Desalination Project in Tunisia

On 24 March 2017, GKW Consult has been contracted with the "Technical Assistance for six Desalination Plants for Brackish Water.

The project is a part of the National Program for the improvement of the Water Quality in the South of Tunisia (“PNAQ, Programme National pour l’Amélioration de la Qualité”), which aims to reduce the salinity of the drinking water distributed by the National Water Service, SONEDE, to a maximum of 1.5 g/l.

The project includes design and construction of 6 desalination plants as turn-key contracts and of necessary infrastructure works such as deep wells, pumping stations, transmission pipes pre-treatment works and finally water distribution systems. Part of the energy needed for the desalination plants will be produced by renewable energy, the construction of a wind turbine is also part of the project.

GKW engineers together with TYPSA, Spain and the local partner STUDI will reinforce and assist the national project in all technical business and administrative issues.

The services provided principally include the revision of studies and elaboration of tender documents, as well as awarding of local and international contracts, construction supervision and commissioning. The contract period comprising studies, construction phase and defects notification is about five years.
