Kingdom of Saudi-Arabia, Wastewater Treatment Plant Al Khumrah

Al Khumrah is the largest existing WWTP site, located in the southern part of Jeddah City in the industrial area of Al Khumra District. It consists of 4 existing phases with a combined capacity of approx. 250,000 m³ /d.

The WWTP Al Khumrah 2 (AK2) was commissioned in 1998 and was designed for a hydraulic capacity of 60,000 m³ /d and a BOD load of 320 mg/l.

The treatment process consist of screening, aerated grit removal chambers, surface aeration, sedimenation and sludge thickening and de-watering via belt filter presses. It utilizes an activated sludge process.

The WWTP Al Khumrah 3 (AK3) was commissioned in 2004 with a design capacity of 140,000 m³ /d and currently receives approx. 125,000 m³ /d. The treatment process consists of screens, aerated grit chambers, aeration, chlorination and sludge dewatering via belt filter presses.

The purpose of this project was to prepare the detailed designs and tender documents for the rehabilitation of the aeration system in AK3 WWTP.

The Consultant prepared all the related technical specifications, design drawings, BOQ and other necessary documents that will enable the interested contractors to tender for the rehabilitation works and subsequently implement the work.
