Desalination

The desalination process aims at removing salt from water for further municipal or industrial use. Desalinated water can be obtained either from brackish or from seawater. The desalination of brackish water allows the production of lower-cost water, but this kind of water is a limited source. The oceans, however, contain over 97% of Earth’s water, thus representing an unlimited resource for the seawater desalination process.

The production of drinking water or process water for the industry by means of desalination is getting a more and more suitable option for public and private organizations to face the current challenges. Driven by the rising demand and commercial innovation, the cost of desalination has decreased significantly over the last years, developing into an interesting option.
