Process optimization and water treatment
About 20 % of fresh water consumed worldwide is being used by industry amounting to approx. 800 ckm (cubic kilometers) per year. In general, more than 50% of this water is used for generating electricity or cooling power plants.
Industries with high water consumption are e.g. the chemical industry, the metal, wood, pulp and paper industry or the food industry. However, this global water consumption for industrial purposes is expected to further increase. Reason is the growing industrialization process in developing countries.
