Foundation stone ceremony for Mega Water Reservoirs Project, Qatar, in which GKW Consult is involved as PMC

The foundation stone of the QR 17 billion (4.2 billion EUR) Mega Reservoirs Project was laid on 12th May 2015 by HE, the Prime Minister of Qatar and other government officials. The ceremony took place at one of the five Reservoirs’ sites to be set up in the country as part of the strategic water scheme, expected to be fully commissioned by the middle of 2018.

The multi-contract landmark project entails constructing 5 mega-reservoir sites and approx. 650 km large transmission main pipelines (diameter 900mm to 1600mm). The five new reservoir sites will together have 24 storage tanks and will ensure an additional storage of more than 20 million m3. In terms of size and capacity, the new reservoirs sites, each of which spread over 1 km2, are the largest in the world.

GKW Consult in partnership with Energoprojekt-Entel supports Kahramaa (Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation) as Project Management Consultant in achieving this milestone that required continuous alignment with business goals, effective communication and a successful collaboration across the management team. The project is an iconic, nationally important initiative to provide and secure potable water for Qatar. To build what will be the largest man-made water storage project in the world when complete, is a complex and demanding challenge to which GKW is responding with dedicated management approaches and advanced high-level Technical Assistance.
