Lahmeyer GKW Consult starts Dam Pilot Project in Morocco
The Department for Water within the Ministry for Energy, Mining, Water and Environment has launched an order for construction of a rubber tube dam for the protection of small irrigation systems in the Skoura Region in the Boulane Province of Morocco. This measure aims to help better use existing water resources in the future. Since June 1, 2012 Lahmeyer GKW Consult GmbH has accompanied the development of the rubber tube dam initiated by the Department for Water. Lahmeyer experts are supported by the Czech Pöyry Environment a.s. (Brno).
The 50 m long and 6 m high dam is the first of its kind in Morocco. It will ensure the irrigation of around 400 olive groves in the semi-arid zone of Morocco and therefore helps to improve the income of the local farmers.
The Oued Guigou River in the Boulmane Province will supply the system with water. For this purpose, a new diversion structure will be constructed.
Together with its project partners, specialists from Lahmeyer GKW Consult will help maintain smooth and efficient project flow. The specialists are responsible for the final design as well as for the delivery, assembly and commissioning of the electromechanical and hydraulic equipment for the weir.
