New Contract for Mega Reservoirs in Qatar
The consulting group Energoprojekt-Entel / Lahmeyer GKW Consult has been awarded in September 2013 the consultancy services for the Project Management of this prestigious 3 bn USD landmark project.
The consulting group will act as the Clients' (KAHRAMAA) representative throughout all phases of the project and will coordinate and control the co-operation of all project partners.
The services include overall project management and administration, verification of all detailed design documents, review of tender documents, technical clarifications, assistance in bid evaluation, and review of contract documents for transmission main pipelines and corridor main pipeline packages.
The project which is scheduled to be completed in March 2017 comprises the following elements which will be integrated into the existing supply, transmission and storage system:
- 5 Primary Reservoirs and Pumping Stations (each reservoir with a storage capacity between 3 and 3.5 million m³ and a maximum pumping capacity of about 6.5 m³/s for the pumping stations)
- 205 km Corridor Main Pipelines (DN 1600) connecting the primary reservoirs and pumping stations with the existing independent water and power providers and interconnecting the primary reservoirs and pumping stations
- 270 km Transmission Main Pipelines (DN 1600-900), connecting the primary reservoirs and pumping stations to the existing 37 storage reservoirs. The Reservoirs will be served from IWPPs in Ras Laffan and Ras Abu Fontas and will increase the supply security to a strategic 7-days water stock within Qatar’s water network system by 2026
