New water supply project in India

East Medinipur, a district of West Bengal, India is critically affected from ground water contamination by mainly salinity. With a loan from Asian Development Bank (ADB), the Public Health Engineering Directorate (PHED) has decided to provide safe and sustainable 24x7 drinking water supply according to standards set by the Government of India.

In November 2018, ADB and PHED have awarded GKW Consult the design, construction supervision and project implementation support for the West Bengal Drinking Water Sector Improvement Project (WBDWSIP) through competitive bidding. The value of consultancy is approx. 2.3 MEUR and duration amounts to 60 months.
The scope of services consists of conducting necessary surveys, investigations and tests, technical appraisal of subprojects and updating preliminary designs, detailed engineering designs/review of design, bidding documents, construction supervision and contract monitoring, and monitoring social and environmental safeguard measures, gender equality and capacity building.
