Tunisia, Analyzing Possibilities of operating Desalination Plants by means of Alternative Energy

On behalf of SONEDE Tunis, the Consultant has executed several Feasibility Studies in the scope of the National Programme for the Improvement of Water Quality in South Tunisia. The main target of the programme was to provide for sufficient drinking water quantity with salt contents below 1.5 g/l up to the year 2035.

The objective of this particular study was to analyse the possibilities of operating desalination plants by means of alternative energy resources. The analyses of existing measurements (Ben Guerdene site) showed that wind energy could be the most economic source of energy.

Services

  • Supply and assembly of wind measuring equipment with software WindPro modelation.
  • Estimation of wind potential (1.5 MW).
  • Energy production assessment: energy outputs estimates, calculation daily, monthly and weekly production pattern, expected annual net energy, sensitivity of net annual energy production.
  • Preparation of a bankable wind study report.
  • Environmental impact assessment study for the wind power plant: expected noise emission, shadow effects, visualization wind farm and ornithological investigations.

Technical data

  • Desalination capacity 9000 m³/day
  • Wind power for 1,6 MW
