Tunisia, Technical Assistance to SONEDE in the Selection of appropriate Desalination Plants in Southern Tunisia
The project objective was to secure sustainable water supply in 15 municipalities in South-East Tunisia and thus to improve the quality of drinking water based on the desalination of local brackish water. In addition a water treatment plant, located in the island of Jerba, has been equipped with a new reverse osmosis line.

- Improving the quality of drinking water in Southern Tunisia through 13 potable water treatment plants
- 10 plants are based on desalination of local brackish water (total capacity installed 38,000m3/d)
- 3 are potable water treatment plants
- Strengthening of water resources in Grand Gabès
- Extension of the desalination plant by the implementation of a 4th reverse osmosis line (capacity 7,500 m3/d)
- Strengthening water resources in the island of Jerba
- Extension of the water treatment plant with a new reverse osmosis line (capacity of 5,000 m3/d)
