Tunisia, Technical Assistance to SONEDE in the Selection of appropriate Desalination Plants in Southern Tunisia

The project objective was to secure sustainable water supply in 15 municipalities in South-East Tunisia and thus to improve the quality of drinking water based on the desalination of local brackish water. In addition a water treatment plant, located in the island of Jerba, has been equipped with a new reverse osmosis line.

Technical data

• Improving the quality of drinking water in Southern Tunisia through 13 potable water treatment plants
  • 10 plants are based on desalination of local brackish water (total capacity installed 38,000m³/d)
  • 3 are potable water treatment plants 
• Strengthening of water resources in Grand Gabès
  • Extension of the desalination plant by the implementation of a 4^th reverse osmosis line (capacity 7,500 m³/d)
• Strengthening water resources in the island of Jerba
  • Extension of the water treatment plant with a new reverse osmosis line (capacity of 5,000 m³/d)
