The National Quality Improvement Program (PNAQ) focuses on reducing the salinity of the water distributed by the national water provider SONEDE to a maximum of 1.5 g/l. The program is being implemented in two phases:
PNAQ I, completed in 2008, had focused on regions where salinity exceeds 2 g/l, and consisted of 13 projects including 10 desalination plants with a cumulative capacity of 36,200 m³/d.
PNAQ II is still ongoing, focuses on areas where salinity is between 1.5 and 2 g/l and includes the implementation of 8 brackish water desalination projects in Southern Tunisia, as well as other infrastructures such as water production, transfer, storage, and remote management of the facilities.
Subject of the present project was the preparation of Feasibility Studies and Environmental Impact Studies under PNAQ II, including detailed investigation of the option of energy supply through renewable energy sources.
