On 17 August 2026, the JICA-assisted West Bengal Piped Water Supply Project – Purulia (WBPWSP) was inaugurated in Manbazar, West Bengal, marking an important milestone for the development of water supply infrastructure in the region.
As a joint venture partner to NSC, Japan, GKW Consult contributed to key areas of project implementation, including:
- detailed engineering design and design review;
- construction supervision and contract management under FIDIC Gold Book and Red Book conditions;
- project management;
- quality and safety audits and supervision of third-party inspections;
- environmental and social safeguard compliance, including IEE, EIA, EMP and RP; and
- capacity building.
The project draws its raw water from the Mukutmanipur Dam Reservoir and comprises a range of major infrastructure components. These include a 1.2 km intake access bridge, raw-water transmission infrastructure, water treatment facilities with sludge management, pumping systems, SCADA and automated metering.
The implementation of infrastructure of this scale requires close coordination between design, construction, quality and safety management, contract administration and environmental and social requirements.
The inauguration therefore represents an important milestone in a project to which GKW Consult has contributed both technical and management expertise. The completed infrastructure is intended to support the provision of reliable water supply services in Purulia.
