The project comprised the restructuration of irregular settlements in urban districts of Dakar (Municipality of Pikine South).
Components included public awareness campaigns to displace and relocate the population, construction of streets and public services (electrification, sewerage and waterworks), the structure of compensation for displaced populations, the development of a new district comprising the construction of multipurpose centers as well as construction and rehabilitation of schools.
Particular value has been set on a participatory process strongly involving beneficiary populations and local authorities.
The sector “Basic Education and Professional Training” has been funded with the purpose to strengthen the capacities of the target groups, especially disadvantaged groups, particularly women and young people, to encourage and revitalize economic activities in the regularized urban districts and to provide employment.
